BLACK WAX can be used on any fine wood finish that is distressed.
BLACK WAX will give satisfactory results on finishes that are just plain dirty and on finishes that are cracked, crazed and have turned black. The latter are finishes that are literally "alligatored". This is caused by early waxes and cooking grease that has built up and turned to hard crusty varnish. If the "alligator" coating is removed, the original finish is usually intact below. BLACK WAX can remove this coating by simple abrasion. The finish will be smooth (the first requirement for a shine) and waxed.
BLACK WAX contains no magic. It is an honest product. High quality finishes were usually smoothed with rottenstone and linseed oil (or water) and then waxed. That is exactly what BLACK WAX will do. Of course, the rougher the finish the longer time it will take to get the desired result, but the user has complete, safe control.
BLACK WAX is a paste and is applied by rubbing the surface, removing the excess, and buffing - that simple. |
